Dyed the pastures a warm, wheaten yellow
To match the bright, burning rays.
The frontliners of the season’s change
Signaled the crickets to emerge and sing
Their characteristic melody.

When she tossed aside the balcony windowpanes,
To gaze beyond the confines of her simple life,
And imagine somewhere intricate.

Hungry laborers pounded the horns of vehicles,
Halted by a congested red light.
Too proud to ease the tension of the hour
With a calculated flick to benevolent green,
Red signaled the cars to stop and wait
In programmed cacophony.

When she shoved aside the sliding door,
To gaze beyond the confines of her intricate life,
And imagine somewhere simplistic.
